What Are Your Thoughts About The App-Based Delviery Fee Imposed By The City Of Seattle?

Red:

“I do not agree with the extra fee because it is wrong to just put that extra charge on consumers. People already pay a lot to have food delivered, so adding the Seattle fee does not seem right. If Uber was paying the delivery drivers out of their own pocket, then I would be okay with the $5 fee, but instead, it is coming from the customers who are purchasing the food. My business is on the app, but I was unaware that people were being charged that extra fee when they ordered food.”

Danni:

“I can understand delivery drivers need to be paid more, but that responsibility should not be imposed on the customer. I have been a user of food delivery apps for quite some time, but I find myself ordering less and less because the price for what I am getting is unreasonable. It’s unfortunate because this was such an easy way of getting food from different communities and neighborhoods in Seattle. The price now for ordering food in Seattle does not match the living wage of the average person.”

Miles:

“The app-based delivery fee imposed by the City of Seattle has impacted businesses and consumers by making it less affordable for the consumer and harder for the business to gain profit. You are now obligated to pay more than $10 in fees and charges, not knowing exactly where your money is going. This is why businesses are plummeting. Delivery charges make sense, but to not know where your money is going or how much money is going to the delivery person just doesn’t feel right.”

Ariella:

“I use the app way less now. I used to be subscribed, but instead of $6 to $8, it is now $15 plus extra fees, plus tip. It is just not feasible to use that often. Plus, it is kind of cheap to make customers pay the difference — I fully support drivers being paid livable wages — instead of the company doing so, as it would have an impact on their net in the long run.”

Aaron:

“I think that the fee mandated in the City of Seattle for food delivery apps is unnecessary. I understand paying the drivers more because they are doing a huge service for those who either cannot physically drive to pick up food, or just do not feel like it, but it should not be my and others’ responsibility to help pay them; that should come from the app. I find myself getting up more and driving to pick up my food instead of ordering through these apps because the extra fees are unreasonable, which overall is taking business away from the drivers that work for these different food delivery apps.”

Shakirah:

“I personally don’t mind paying the extra fee that goes to delivery drivers! I have been on both sides of the app as a Dasher and a person ordering DoorDash. Because of this, I understand how Dashers were previously getting underpaid for their labor. I am happy to see DoorDash being more proactive to ensure Dashers are getting proper compensation.”
